Cats Protection
The nice lady at the Leeds Cat Protection gave me some super advice that I’ve asked if I could put on my info page.
“I would say to anyone looking at either re-homing from a resuce and
also if they need to re-home their own cat…
DO check to see what their re-homing policy is
DO check that the cats have been checked for a microchip (otherwise
you could well be adopting someone’s cat)
DO check they’ve been de-fleaed, de-wormed and possibly vaccinated
(ask to see the certificate)
DO check they’re neutered or have been checked to see if they’re pregnant
DON’T adopt from somewhere where you’re not allowed to interact with
the cats and kittens and get a feel for what they’re like
If you need to re-home your own cat
DON’T hand over money - a reputable rescue will take cats in free of
charge and may ask for a donation
DO make sure that you can see where the cats will be taken - some are
left in cages until they’re re-homed
DO ask how they will vet the new adopters - if you have a cat that is
scared of kids, will they make sure they go to an adult only home etc.”
I think this type of info is essential for my information page, I think people need to be aware of where they are adopting their cats from and also if they are really ready to be a cat owner
